Here’s a section of my barn, which serves as my studio. I work in a few different areas, and this one is called Studio A. The stairs lead up to my loft, where I do most of my collage work. I work on a modified easel with a pretty cool manually pressurized hydraulic system. With the flip of a handle, it goes from 8 feet high at a 90-degree angle to completely flat, at just 3 feet high. Think of one of those enormous drafting tables architects must have used back in the ’60s and ’70s. I’ve had it for 40 years. My father, who was a builder, gave it to me. I absolutely love this thing. I’ve tried to find another one over the years, but they seem to have disappeared into history.

We got up to the seaside town of Gloucester Tuesday morning to see the exhibition : AVERY, GOTTLIEB, & ROTHKO : BY THE SEA, at the CAPE ANN MUSEUM. Fantastic show! Lot’s of early works from 3 friends painting in this working fishing town in the mid 30’s - showcasing early works and a host of their later paintings from the mid 50’s. Glad I got the exhibition book, it’s great with morning coffee.

Loosening up - a few island studies I did in September - 16 x16 ‘s inspired by my trip to The Cape — Wellfleet, ma.
inspired by morning kayak trips through the marsh along the Sengekontacket pond, it’s saltwater and runs out to the nantucket sound - it’s around 745 acres and about 2.5 miles in length. It’s just beautiful.
