“I'm painting the inside of nature—the quiet emotional field that lives beneath its surface. Moments of stillness concealed beneath it layers. Like reflections drifting across water— a pond, a patch of nature, leaf and moss— catching fragments of light and shadow, those ethereal shifting rhythms, just under the surface— that’s what I’m searching for”.

Midnight Garden emerges from an ongoing, intuitive relationship with the natural world. These paintings unfold in a space between emotion and memory, where light fractures, forms dissolve, and perception begins to drift. Working through a loose yet deliberate process, Roth allows natural elements to surface and recede across layered, tactile grounds. Forms hover at the edge of recognition, flattening into near abstraction before quietly resolving into something familiar. Beneath this fluidity is an underlying structure, anchoring the work without restricting its movement. Color and form interact as a kind of visual cadence, establishing rhythms of depth, atmosphere, and breath. Built through loose brushwork, wondering line, and moments of collage, the surfaces carry a physical presence, shifting, atmospheric, and alive. Nature serves as a point of departure, the work moves inward, exploring the tension between what is seen and what is felt. These paintings function as dialogues in nature, at times meditative, inviting the viewer into a space— where perception softens, boundaries dissolve and the inner experience begin to emerge.
